Torcs

The ancient Celts loved personal decoration. The highest emblem of Celtic society was a neck torc, usually the sign of a king or queen, chief or heroic warrior (male or female). They also wore torcs around their arms, wrists, and across the chest.

The torc (or torque) is an incomplete ring of metal, open to pass around the neck or arm, made of twisted wires of copper, bronze, silver or gold, ending in ornamental terminals.

The Celtic god Cernunnos is shown on the Gundestrup Cauldron (1st century BCE), with a torc round his neck and also holding one, and many ancient sculptures depict Celtic warrious with torcs. For the ancients, the torc was a symbol of power, strength and royalty, and in battle could protect the warrior from defeat.

We offer a range of neck torcs that hinge to fit around the neck, or simply bend around your neck. The terminals should have a gap between them at the front when worn. Wrist torcs function as bangles. You can CAREFULLY bend these torcs to fit your neck or wrist.
